The Director of Marketing and Communications will be responsible for overseeing all marketing and communications functions for Blueprint Sports, including marketing strategy, campaign management, marketing event operations, loyalty/segment marketing, alumni relations, media planning & buying, direct marketing (email), press releases, local & regional media connections, and digital and social content strategies. The organization seeks a dynamic, innovative, hands-on marketing executive to lead a data-driven, strategic and consistent approach to develop consumer marketing and promotional programs to support key initiatives and drive revenue.
The Director will lead a newly centralized team to develop, implement, and amplify an integrated, cohesive, and consistent approach supporting all organizational assets. The ability to leverage the power of media, including social media, new media, and digital media, is central to the role. The Director will be a collaborative executive, able to work seamlessly and positively with the many other department heads. This person will be the connective tissue between social media, events, campus, alumni, and email marketing.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate excellent attention to detail: the successful candidate will be hands-on with execution, not solely a strategic thought-leader.
  • Communicate effectively with leadership, peers, and direct reports on all planning and execution details.
  • Develop the annual marketing campaign, including directing concepts that will resonate with the target audience and the visuals and messages to drive brand and promotional sales.
  • Develop, monitor, and evaluate marketing decisions using analytics that measure outcomes and assess quantifiable metrics.
  • Merge the art and science of brand marketing to positively impact the content and creative while ultimately driving business and sales results.
  • Develop, direct and coordinate integrated marketing programs/events that tie to business goals based on data insights and drive ancillary revenue.
  • Dig into and devise a strategy for media buying, paid social, and SEO.
  • Conceptualize and lead successful grassroots campaigns that drive a brand presence in the market that is emotionally impactful for our core audiences.
  • Lead the email marketing strategy, using segmentation, automation, data capture, and data insights to drive business success.
  • Develop relationships with local, regional, and national media (print and broadcast) to secure positive year-round coverage for Blueprint Sports.
  • Write or review all press releases for Blueprint Sports.
  • Understand and continuously monitor marketing, digital, and media trends with a keen awareness of new technologies that can be taken advantage of.
  • Driving a culture of collaboration across the organization – inclusive of creative, digital, communications, sales, and sponsorship leaders.
  • Manage overall marketing budgets and budgets for large projects or significant programs.

Qualifications, Skills, and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in sports management, marketing, business administration, or related field from a four-year college or university, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of relevant marketing experience in a consumer-facing organization focused on digital marketing, sales, events, and promoting an expiring-inventory product or service. Experience in sports or sports-adjacent fields preferred.
  • Proven track record of integrating and utilizing different marketing channels through the design and implementation of innovative marketing, advertising, and promotional data-driven strategies.
  • A detail-oriented planner who maps out a complex and broad set of roles and responsibilities against a trackable and shareable calendar.
  • A proactive communicator who keeps leadership informed of plans and progress.
