WICHITA, Kan. (March 29, 2024) –Wheat Shock Collective, the premiere collective supporting NIL opportunities for Shocker student-athletes, today announced the “Seed Sowers: 5K Shockers at $500” initiative, designed to strengthen NIL support for current and future Shocker student-athletes. The collective’s goal is to establish a foundation for Wichita State University’s athletics success moving forward, calling on community “Seed Sowers” and 5,000 Shockers from around the country to commit to a $500/year membership or contribution. 

“The Shocker Way continues to guide our efforts by defining who we are as a department, as well as our objectives and priorities. It’s no secret that aligning championship-level resources with championship-level expectations is paramount to our success, which is why we’re calling on 5,000 members of Shocker Nation from around the globe, to support the Wheat Shock Collective with a $500 annual gift.”

The importance of this program is underlined by Wichita State University’s outspoken emphasis on the significance of NIL in the modern athletics landscape. Dedicated to supporting and uplifting its student-athletes, the university has been outwardly supportive of Wheat Shock Collective and its mission to champion the success of Shockers in all sports, as can be seen in this video featuring Kevin Saal (Athletic Director), Paul Mills (Head Men’s Basketball Coach), and Terry Nooner (Head Women’s Basketball Coach). 

“Without a solid foundation of NIL infrastructures and support, it’s difficult to compete with schools who are boasting over 10,000 members for their NIL collectives,” said Tyler Weber, former Wichita State University baseball student-athlete and current board member for Wheat Shock Collective. “We know how passionate this fan base is, and it’s with them in mind that we want to help Wichita State athletics programs reach higher levels. For those of us who have long graduated from Wichita State, this is the best and most effective way to show our support and invest in the future of Shocker athletics.”

Shocker supporters, alumni, and fans that want to take part in the “Seed Sowers” initiative have three easy ways to contribute to the collective:

• Join the “Shocker Society” annual membership club, or any membership club tier above that HERE and receive exclusive benefits, including access to exclusive content, events, merchandise, and more.
• Make a yearly one-time contribution of $500 HERE. 
• Make a yearly tax-deductible contribution of $500 HERE.
